Where is Salardú and how to get there?
Salardú is a charming village located in the Aran Valley, in the province of Lleida, Catalonia, in the middle of the Pyrenees. At an altitude of approximately 1,268 metres, Salardú is in a privileged setting, surrounded by mountains and wooded landscapes that delight nature lovers. It is part of the municipality of Naut Aran and is only a few kilometres from the Baqueira-Beret ski resort, making it a popular destination in both winter and summer.
The most common way to get to Salardú is by car. From Lleida, take the N-230 road towards Vielha, the capital of the Aran Valley. Once in Vielha, follow the C-28 road towards Baqueira. Salardú is on this route, about 10 kilometres from Vielha, so access is easy and direct.
Salardú stands out for its rich history and traditional Aranese architecture, with stone houses, slate roofs and narrow cobbled streets that preserve the charm of the past.
Attractions of Salardú and Garós in Valle de Arán
Naut Aran offers a first village which is Garós, a favourite of its holiday residents who appreciate this small and warm place. Its church of Sant Julià (12th century) is a welcoming monument where you will find a site with paleochristian remains; an ancient necropolis that is still attractive for studies. In the village of Garós is Casa Mont dera Solana by Totiaran, an ideal accommodation for its location and comfort: a modern duplex with mountain charm.
Salardú is the second village of the Naur Aran up towards Baqueira, it has many activities to do both in winter and summer, events at Christmas, New Year’s Eve as well as fairs and markets in the main square of the village.
Salardú was a fortified village in medieval times due to its strategic location at the entrance to the valley through the Bonaigua pass, there was a castle in the part where the parish church of Sant Andreu is today, and the main tower is the current bell tower, the church can be visited all year round and inside you will find the Christ of Salardú, considered one of the most valuable Romanesque carvings in the area.
SUMMER
Several events are held during the spring and summer season. In October there is a livestock fair that has been held for over 100 years and which commemorates the descent of the cattle that are grazing in the mountains to be confined in the huts.
The village festival is held on 3 May and is the first of the main festivals in the Val d’Aran. It is the ‘Era Hèsta de Santa Creu’, a festival in which the crosses from the different villages of Naut Aran are brought together and carried in procession to the Plaça dera Pica.
Salardú organises the Ultra Trail Naut Aran , a mountain race that runs along trails, tracks and alpine meadows of the Pyrenees and which counts towards the UTMB (Ultra Trail Mont Blanc), Era Roda Non Stop, a mountain bike race with 100% Val d’Aran identity, Salardú Country Rock Festival: an international festival with an attractive offer for all audiences, and Festival Pyrenades, which combines culture with nature, cinema and mountain music with outdoor activities for the whole family.
From Salardú you can walk along the royal path to Tredòs and Baqueira, or to Unha and continue on to Gessa and Arties. Other hiking excursions include going up to the Aiguamoix dam and the Tredòs baths and Colomers lakes,
