In the Valle de Arán, there are many lakes to visit, in addition to the famous Colomers, the largest glacial cirque in the Pyrenees. We want to show you some that you can visit with ease during your summer in the Valle de Arán.

Here are some routes for you to explore upon arriving in the valley this summer. Get ready to enjoy the nature and beauty of the Valle de Arán during the summer season!

1. Excursion to the Escunhau Lake

Easy and perfect for the whole family, we will start in the village of Escunhau, where we will take the forest trail next to the church. After about 8 km, where the forest trail ends, we will see a cabin where we can park the car.

A few meters ahead, we will find the trail that leads up to the lake. During the walk, we will pass by herds of cows, old stone corrals, and hear marmots. With a bit of luck, we may even see them!

The ascent is easy and without difficulty. In less than an hour, we will reach a beautiful and lesser-known lake, perfect for enjoying the fresh air and views during the summer in the Valle de Arán.

2. Excursion to the Baciver Lake

Ideal for the whole family, this excursion will take us to the Bacivèr Lake, located at 2164 m. From Baqueira, we take the road to Pla de Beret, and before reaching it, we will turn off to the Orr parking lot, where we will leave the car and begin our route.

The path is well marked, and we will always have the Malo River to our right. If we prefer an easier path, we can opt for the wider track on the left. We recommend wearing appropriate mountain footwear, especially during the summer in the Valle de Arán, when the routes are more accessible but can be demanding in certain areas.

In just over an hour, we will reach the famous Baciver Lake, a stunning glacial lake and one of the most photographed in the Valle de Arán. The summer in the Valle de Arán offers spectacular views, and this lake is a great place to enjoy them!

If you want to see more lakes, you can take a circular route, exploring the Estanh Naut de Bacivèr and other nearby lakes. In winter, this route is done with snowshoes or mountain skis, a perfect experience to start these sports!

3. Estanh Restanca and Lac de Mar

A demanding excursion but offering spectacular views of the Valle de Arán. It begins in the village of Arties and continues to Pont deth Ressec. If you’d prefer to reduce the effort, you can take a taxi to the Pontet de Rius.

The ascent on a paved path through the pine and fir forest will take us to the Restanca Lake, where there is a refuge. If you’re up for it, the Lac de Mar is not far away, surrounded by breathtaking scenery.

4. Excursion to Estanh des Trauetes and Estanh dera Pincèla

This excursion is possible from late spring to autumn, depending on the snow. In winter, it becomes a challenge for lovers of mountain skiing. From the village of Bagergue, we take the track towards Santa Margalida and climb the Varradòs track to reach the lakes of Trauetes and dera Pincèla, two beautiful glacial lakes surrounded by mountains.

5. Excursion to the Montoliu Lake

This excursion is ideal for a 4×4 to get to the starting point of the trail, which is located in the village of Bagergue, heading towards the Liat mines. The trail is easy, but it’s important to be aware of the loose rocks.

The Montoliu Lake is famous for its intense blue waters and its stunning mountainous surroundings. From here, you can continue towards Tuc de Montoliu or even explore more routes around the area.
