A snow holiday doesn\u2019t have to mean staying right by the slopes. There are stunning, quieter places with a more direct connection to nature, like Salard\u00fa\u2014a perfect combination of mountains and proximity to Baqueira. <\/p>

If you want to enjoy the ski slopes but also do other activities, a great option is Salard\u00fa<\/a>, in the municipality of Naut Aran, just 4 km from Baqueira Beret\u2014one of the most charming spots in the Upper Aran Valley. <\/p>

How to get to Salard\u00fa<\/h2>

Salard\u00fa is the capital of Naut Aran<\/a> and shares the municipality with Arties, Bagergue, Baqueira Beret, Gar\u00f2s, Gessa, Montgarri, Tred\u00f2s and Unha, the latter known for its spectacular panoramic views<\/a>.<\/p>

If you\u2019re coming by road, you\u2019ll need to go through the 5 km Vielha Tunnel. Once you exit the tunnel and pass Vielha, the landscape changes completely. In winter, snow-covered mountains and low temperatures turn the area into the ideal setting to enjoy the snow season in the Aran Valley<\/a>. <\/p>

If you\u2019re planning to come by car between December and March, don\u2019t forget snow chains.<\/p>

Salard\u00fa, a picturesque village<\/h2>

Salard\u00fa is one of the most beautiful and picturesque villages in Naut Aran.<\/p>

Among the must-see sights in Salard\u00fa is the Church of Sant Andreu, declared a Historic-Artistic Monument, and its impressive octagonal Romanesque-style bell tower.<\/p>

Inside is the Christ of Salard\u00fa, one of the most important works of Aranese Romanesque art. <\/p>

In the Val d’Aran there were about 31 mills that used the power of water to grind grain, and the one in Salard\u00fa is the “Era M\u00f2la” mill, restored and open to visitors during certain times of the year. <\/p>

Events and festivities<\/h2>

For more than 100 years, a livestock fair has been held in October, commemorating the descent of the herds that graze in the mountains.<\/p>

The village festivities are on May 3, “Era H\u00e8sta de Santa Creu”, one of the first major festivals in the Val d\u2019Aran.<\/p>
